Two organisations, one vision

East Riding of Yorkshire Council

Under a pioneering initiative with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, we established a wide-ranging strategic services partnership. We also set up a joint venture company to promote East Riding as a centre of excellence and to market its services throughout the UK. The Council’s ambition is to be in the top 10% of councils in the country.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council's goals were to improve quality, develop the local economy and reduce costs through new technology and delivery methods. This matched our objectives of improving processes via innovation and international know-how, ensuring the seamless transition of services and completing the smooth transfer of 500 Council staff.

Successes to date

• All performance targets met or exceeded
• High levels of customer satisfaction
• Seamless transition of services, supported by continued delivery from existing premises
• Staff transferred on existing terms and conditions, no redundancies or redeployment
• Development of excellent working relationships at all levels within a short period of time

Top 10% performance

• Collection rates for council tax in top 10% of unitary authorities
• Collection rates for rent in top 10% of all councils
• Processing of housing and council tax benefit claims in top 10% of all authorities

This partnership is a model of how the public and private sectors can work together, as equal partners, to realise a shared vision.
